Breaking the Crucible Record for Snooker

pool games

If you are playing snooker you have probably heard the term "maximum breaks". It's the highest break in one frame. A player could achieve a maximum break for 120 points by potting all the 15 reds and 15 blacks. Another way to break this limit is to put all six colours into a single frame and earn 27 points.

Stephen Hendry’s 147

A seven-time World Snooker champion has been making headlines after hitting the record-breaking number 147. The break came in seventh frame in his first round match against Stuart Bingham. He is now the world number one and will defend his title. He is also in line for another major reward. Hendry however isn't convinced the extra incentive of a Crucible break of 147 is worth taking the risk.

Ronnie O'Sullivan's 147

Ronnie O'Sullivan has made 15 competitive 147 breaks. His first was during the 1997 World Championship held at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield. His latest maximum was recorded at the 2018 English Open, against Elliot Slessor (Allan Taylor). This is the fastest maximum ever achieved by a male player in the World Championship.

Jimmy White's 147

Jimmy White's 1992 break at 147 was one the most famous breaks in snooker. The British professional was an outstanding player who enjoyed a successful career. He won the UK Championship, Masters, and six World Championship finals. Despite his successes however, he failed to win The Crucible.

Jimmy White's victory against Tony Drago

Jimmy White's 147 against Tony Draga are considered to be one of the finest billiards shots. The former world number one hit it in three minutes, 31 seconds. It was the fastest century split in a ranking race. Drago is an excellent player but has his flaws. His temperament is not always perfect and he often plays poorly against the rest.

Jimmy White's score of 147 against Jimmy White

A break of 147 in table tennis is a huge achievement. This feat was achieved by Jim White in 1992. White broke the reds in an early match against Steve Davis. White seemed to be on the right track for his career high of 147. However, on his 10th black, he faced a long pot. After kissing off the red, White decided to go for black. This earned him PS114,000. Drago greeted Drago warmly after the match.
