Badminton rules vary from game to game and match to match. Badminton World Federation Rules (BWF), describe the main facets of the game. These rules also define specific skills and shots. There are several rules that govern how the shuttlecock is used and served. To win a badminton game, you must be familiar with these rules.

A service is considered the most important shot at a badminton rallies. This shot is only possible once and will result in a points for the receiver. In official BWF play, the receiver earns this right by winning a rally.

Depending on which game you are playing, there will be different rules and regulations that you must follow. The most obvious is the fact that you can't touch or serve above the net. You can only serve diagonally across the net. Another rule is that the shuttlecock cannot be hit twice in one match.

You should never serve in an unnatural way according to the BWF rules. You can serve from either the right or left side of the court depending on whether the score is even. If it is not, you can serve from both sides. A court outside of the white boundary is not allowed.

It is an amazing feat of skill to serve a birdie. However, it is also one of the most crucial shots of the match. But if the ball is in the net, you won't be able to hit it.

A birdie (or shuttlecock) is a half-round ball with featherlike material on its bottom. It cannot be hit more than once before it bounces over to the other side. Additionally, it is only permitted to be hit on the lower birdie side. If it bounces back, it will return down.


There are a few other good service rules that you should know. One of these is that shuttlecocks should land on the service line. This applies to doubles. If you are able to serve in the right court, you will be awarded a point.

The rules of badminton can help you determine whether a particular shot will be a good idea. These include choosing the right racket and using a light racquet. You also need to be above your waistline when serving.
