Shaun Murphy - Snooker Player Profile

Shaun Murphy is an international snooker player. He is known for his long-potting and straight cue actions. He has over 400 century break records, including the second best in the Championship League.

Murphy was ranked three in the world for the 2008/2009 season. He dropped to number seven in the 2010/2011 season. He won his third career Triple Crown in 2011, the Players Tour Championship. Murphy was considered a big underdog, so it was a surprise win. He reached the final of UK Championship in 2012. But he was beaten by the eventual winner Judd Trump.

Murphy is considered a talented player. He has also achieved many firsts throughout his career. Among these are his first 147 break, his first ranking title, and his first World Snooker Championship appearance.

In 1998, he began his professional career on the Challenge Tour (also known as the UK Tour). Tony, his father was a professional golfer. He was bullied as a teenager at school. Although he attended homeschooling classes, he didn't see his mom until a year later. Elaine, his wife of one year, was his first love. They were married in June 2006. Despite the fears of his family, he and Elaine were married in 2014.

Shaun has won over PS3 millions in prize money throughout his career. He has won seven non ranking tournaments. He also participated in eight ranking tournaments, reaching at least the quarterfinals in two.

At the start of the 2004/2005 season, he was ranked number four in the world. In addition, he won the Welsh Open and the Brugge Open. He was also diagnosed with Savant Syndrome.


In 2005, he won his first World Championship. The BBC awarded him the Sportsman of the Years title the following year. After this, he was appointed a San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital surgical resident.

Murphy had trouble communicating with his peers as a young boy. His social skills could have been affected. While he has had several complicated romantic relationships, he has also been able to solve these problems. Elaine, his girlfriend from one of his matches, was even proposing to him in a restaurant in Ireland.

Ray Reardon mentored him at 15 years of age. He continued to work with Steve Prest up until 2006. For the 2007/2008 season, he was coached by Willie Thorne. He won the Challenge Tour’s third and fourth events.

Murphy won the Wuxi Classic, China. He then entered the elite top 16. His next appearance was the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. Despite having the tournament's shortest qualifying round of only five frames, he reached the quarterfinals and beat teenager Luca Brecel.

He then went on to win the German Masters, the Ruhr Championship, and the inaugural Northern Ireland Trophy. He remained ranked number three for the entire 2008/2009 season. He reached the semis of the UK Championship and Shanghai Masters in the same season.
