How to Clean Felt Swimming Pool Tables

rules for pool

Cleaning your pool table every day is key to keeping it in tip-top shape. You can keep your pool table clean and it will be easier to use. The best way to do this is to use a brush.

Your local billiards supply retailer will have brushes that are specifically made for cleaning felt pool table surfaces. These are gentle on the felt and will also remove dust and lint. You can also use a regular household toothbrush if you don’t want to spend too much. It is important to not use too many forceful strokes, as this can damage the surface.

A steamer is an alternative option for cleaning the pool table surface. A steamer is useful in removing stains but can cause them to return if they are not removed. To remove stain, you can use equal amounts of water and vinegar. But you'll want to be sure to allow the stain to dry before playing on it.

You should not damage your pool table felt. Pool table felt is weaker than regular felt. A typical recreational player should clean their tables no less than once a week. For more serious players, a cleaner schedule is advised.

Next, clean the pockets after you have removed the stains. It's a good idea, before you start working on the felt, to vacuum the pockets. You will need a damp cloth, soft cloth and a vacuum crevice tool to clean them.

To remove stains, you should use a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using paper towels. They trap fibers which can be left on the felt.

You can also purchase a spray-on product that will better remove stains. Some of these products are available at your local department store or online. They can be substituted for products found in your billiards supplies store.

After you have applied the cleaning solution, wipe the felt with a damp cloth. Do not rub the stains. Use light strokes so that the felt doesn't stretch out.

Give your felt time to dry. During this time, you should avoid drinking near the table, smoking, or placing ash trays on the rails. You don't want chalk marks to be left on the surface.

After cleaning the table, the cues can be stored in the cue rack/cue stand. These cues should not be kept in high temperatures or where they can become rotted by moisture.

Last but not least, you will need to clean them. This is a common task, but be careful. Home-based cleaners are often designed to remove hard grime and damage felt. Protect the felt by using a specialized cleaner.
