Every year, thousands of pool players travel from all over the country to Southern Indiana for the Derby City Classic. This annual event offers a variety competitions such as 9-Ball Banks, One Pocketet and the BIGFOOT 10 ball challenge.

1998 was the year that the Derby City Classic began. The tournament's creator, Greg Sullivan, was a lifelong fan of the Johnston City Hustler's Jamboree of the 1960s. Sullivan partnered with the Pantone Company in order to find the perfect color for poolcloth. The Pantone Company's testing led to Tournament Blue becoming the predominant color in professional tournaments.

2003 was the second year of the event. The World Pool Alliance sponsored the tournament, which featured many top players. The tournament began with nine ball banks. After that, the one pocket and then the BIGFOOT-10-ball challenge followed. The tournament took place in Elizabeth, Indiana at Caesars Southern Indiana Casino. The event had a number vendors and ring games. There was also cash game. The tournament took places on 53 9-foot Diamond table.

A number of players were there for their first Derby City Classic appearance. Apart from the tournament itself, there were a few special events. One of these was the Diamond Ten Foot Challenge. This challenge is for a small group of pros. The challenge is played on five-foot-by-ten-foot tables. The winner is awarded $16,000 and the winners of the nine-ball banking and one-pocket contests each get $8,000. The BIGFOOT 10-ball challenge was also the first event of the Derby City Classic, and it is a small field of professionals who are competing for the title of BIGFOOT champion.


In 2006, the third event took place. The tournament featured a number of players who had been in the field for their first Derby City Classic event. Corey Deuel Dennis Grabe and Lee Vann were all successful in the one-pocket event and 9-ball banks. The other players were not as successful. In the One-Pocket, Darren Appleton played well enough to earn a third place finish. He also utilized his algorithm well for the Derby Cup, earning him a third position finish.

The 2015 edition of this event was held. Many players were in the tournament for their first Derby City Classic event. Corey Deuel was a good player, as were Darren Appleton and Lee Vann. Joshua Filler and Darren Appleton were able to place third in the one-pocket. Efren Ryes, Mika, Shane VanBoening, and Shane Filler were also present.

The Derby City Classic is an annual pool competition that takes place at Caesars Southern Indiana Casino in Elizabeth.
