Thousands of pool players travel to Southern Indiana every year for the Derby City Classic. This annual event offers a variety competitions such as 9-Ball Banks, One Pocketet and the BIGFOOT 10 ball challenge.
The first event of the Derby City Classic was held in 1998. Greg Sullivan, who created the tournament, was a lifetime fan of Johnston City Hustlers Jamboree. Sullivan contracted the Pantone Company for research on the ideal color for pool cloth. After testing, Tournament Blue became the dominant color in professional tournaments.

2003 saw the second event. The World Pool Alliance sponsored and hosted the tournament that featured a variety of top players. The tournament started with nine-ball banks. Next came the one-pocket challenge and the BIGFOOT 10-ball contest. The tournament took place in Elizabeth, Indiana at Caesars Southern Indiana Casino. The event included a number of vendors, ring games, and cash games. The tournament was held on 53 9-foot Diamond tables.
Many players made their Derby City Classic debuts at the tournament. Apart from the tournament itself, there were a few special events. One of these was the Diamond Ten Foot Challenge. This challenge is for a small group of pros. The challenge is played on five-foot-by-ten-foot tables. The winner is awarded $16,000 and the winners of the nine-ball banking and one-pocket contests each get $8,000. BIGFOOT 10-ball challenges was also the inaugural event of Derby City Classic. There are a few professionals in this field who are competing to win the title BIGFOOT champion.
The third event was held on June 6, 2006. The tournament featured many players who had played in their first Derby City Classic event. Corey Deuel Dennis Grabe and Lee Vann were all successful in the one-pocket event and 9-ball banks. Other players weren't as successful. Darren Appleton finished third in the One-Pocket. Appleton also did well with his algorithm in the Derby Cup and earned a third-place finish.
The last event was held in 2015. The tournament featured many players who were playing in their first Derby City event. Corey Deuel, Darren Appleton, Lee Vann, and Joshua Filler all did well in the Derby City Classic. In the one-pocket, Darren Appleton and Joshua Filler played well enough to earn a third place finishing. Efren Ryes, Mika, Shane VanBoening, and Shane Filler were also present.
