Filler won against Gerson Martinez, Peru. Van Boening faced Fedor Gorst, Russia. Filler won at 6-2 after leading the first phase matches by as much four games.
Van Boening ranked first in the 64-player bracket. He spent hours practicing his break shot in Qatar. He was able to breeze past his four first opponents by practicing his break shot. He beat Orcollo the first round and then defeated David Alcaide the second round.
